Moving in the Houston Summer: How to Beat the Heat and the Rain

Summer is peak moving season everywhere, but in Houston it comes with triple-digit heat indexes, heavy humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms that roll in fast. A little planning keeps your move on schedule and your belongings dry.

Start early. Morning moves beat the worst of the heat and usually finish before the afternoon storms. We start at 7am every day, so you can book an early start and finish before the worst of the afternoon heat.

Protect anything that doesn't like heat or moisture. Candles, vinyl records, electronics, and some medications shouldn't sit in a hot truck all day, so move those in your air-conditioned car. Shrink wrap on upholstered furniture and mattresses also keeps out the rain between the door and the truck.

Keep the AC running at both houses during the move, have water on hand for everyone, and lay down floor protection at the new place since wet shoes and tracked-in grass come with summer storms.
